Swiss VAT calculator
Add Swiss VAT to a net amount, or take it out of a gross amount, at the standard rate of 8.1 %, the reduced rate of 2.6 % or the accommodation rate of 3.8 %. Results are rounded to 5 centimes, as on Swiss invoices.
How Swiss VAT is calculated
Since 1 January 2024 Switzerland has three VAT rates: 8.1 % for most goods and services, 2.6 % for goods of daily need such as food, books and medicines, and 3.8 % for accommodation services.
To add VAT, multiply the net amount by the rate: CHF 1,000 net at 8.1 % gives CHF 81 VAT and CHF 1,081 gross. To remove it, divide the gross amount by 1 plus the rate: CHF 1,081 ÷ 1.081 = CHF 1,000 net.
Swiss amounts are usually rounded to the nearest 5 centimes. Which rate applies depends on what you sell - when in doubt, check with the Federal Tax Administration or your fiduciary.
